iPhone 8, X, XS and XR are not waterproof !

It’s not like an Apple watch that you can wearing it and do water sports, like swimming, snorkeling, surfing, or taking part in other types of water activities. The iPhone models are not waterproof, they are however water resistant (to a degree).

With an IP rating of IP68, Apple designed the iPhone XS to be waterproof in situations where it’s submerged no deeper than 2 meters or about 6 feet in water for 30 minutes or less.

The iPhone XR and the original X are rated IP67 under IEC standard 60529 much like the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus models when it comes to water resistance.

Examining the tech specs for these iPhone models, you find a small footnote that calls out the details of this.

As per Apple’s disclaimer via the footnote on the new iPhone XS Technical Specifications page:

iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are splash, water, and dust resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 (maximum depth of 2 meters up to 30 minutes). Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage not covered under warranty.

This means that your iPhone XS or iPhone XR/X/8 will not get damaged if it is exposed to a little rain splash while you are on the run.

Likewise, if you accidentally dropped it in the toilet or splashed some beer on it, you will be ok. Your iPhone will not be permanently damaged.

Remember Apple iPhones are Water-Resistant but not Waterproof!!

iPhone X, the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone

iphone x black

iPhone X, is a a designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the iPhone X on September 12, 2017, alongside the iPhone 8 and 8 plus at the Steve Jobs Theater in the Apple Park campus. The phone is slated for release on November 3, 2017. This iPhone marks the iPhone’s tenth anniversary, with “X”.

Within Apple’s line-up, the iPhone X is positioned as a high-end, premium model intended to showcase advanced technologies, such as wireless charging, OLED display, dual cameras with improved depth sensing, and a face recognition unlock system called Face ID.

An iOS 11 GM build was also leaked over the preceding weekend, confirming the new design and features and revealing the new Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE connectivity.

Specification:

HARDWARE

The iPhone X has a 5.8-inch (diagonal) OLEDcolor-accurate screen that supports DCI-P3 wide color gamut, sRGB, and high dynamic range. This “Super Retina HD Display” has the True Tone technology found on the iPad Pro, which uses six-channel ambient light sensor, to adapt the display’s color temperature to the surrounding ambient light. It has a typical contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, a typical maximum brightness of 625 cd/m2, and a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.

The iPhone X contains the Apple’s A11 Bionic SoC, which is a hexa-core processor using the 10nm process. It has the Neural Engine, which is the AI accelerator. It has two cores optimized for performance which are 25 percent faster than the A10 Fusion along with four efficiency-optimized core which are 70 percent faster than the iPhone 7.

Face ID replaces the Touch ID system. The Flood illuminator is an invisible infrared light that helps identify the user’s face in the dark. A dot projector uses more than 30,000 invisible dots that are projected onto the face to build its unique facial map. An infrared camera reads the dot pattern, captures an infrared image, then sends the data to the secure enclave in the A11 Bionic chip (which contains a dedicated AI Accelerator) to confirm a match. The system will not work with eyes closed—preventing access if unattended.

The iPhone X features two cameras, a 12 MP wide-angle camera with six-element lens, autofocus, IR filter, burst mode, f/1.8 aperture, digital image stabilization, and optical image stabilization. It can record 4K video at 24, 30, or 60 fps or 1080p at 30 or 60 fps, and slow-motion video (1080 at 120 or 240 fps), timelapse with stabilization. It can capture panoramas, and recognize faces. The telephoto lens has 2× optical zoom / 10× digital zoom, Portrait Lighting (beta), f/2.4 aperture, and optical image stabilization. It also has a quad-LED “True Tone” flash with Slow Sync. It has a 7 MP TrueDepth camera with a f/2.2 aperture.
